A Red, White and Blue Thank You

Patch for Patriots was a huge success! The citizens of the Shoreline collected hundreds of items to ship to soldiers fighting in Afghanistan.

Whew! My arms are tired! But it's not from  or from playing tug of war with . It's from unpacking all of the amazing donations we received during the  drive!

For the past couple of weeks I fought my urge to peek in on the Stone Creek Coffee stores that generously offered to collect the items being donated to send to my  from the US Army, currently stationed in Afghanistan and in charge of just over 1,000 American troops. I'd find myself drifting off into daydream land imagining what sort of donations we would receive. Then I'd kick myself back into reality and remember to not get my hopes too high, just in case. Yup. I'm a cynical kind of gal.

I'm also an idiot. The donations poured in and far surpassed what any of my day dreams could cook up!

Would you look at those photos? My dining room table is about to collapse under the weight of it all. We did one heck of a job and I can't wait for the soldiers to open the boxes and see for themselves!

The Shoreline sure does love and appreciate our Armed Forces! In total we collected:

  • 16 bottles of shampoo
  • 31 bottles of body wash
  • 17 packets of gum
  • 36 razors
  • 14 protein bars
  • 6 decks of cards
  • 51 bars of soap
  • 96 instant coffee packets
  • 76 flavored water mix packets
  • 24 rolls of floss
  • 67 toothbrushes
  • 32 tubes of toothpaste
  • 22 sticks of deodorant
  • 7 bottles of hot sauce

Among a ton of other needed items such as lotions, cereal, snacks, socks, aspirin, lip balms, games and girly products.

In the next several days (this is going to take me awhile!) I'll be packing all the donations into boxes that will then be shipped to Kandahar, Afghanistan and into the hands of men and women who are fighting to make our lives safer here at home. Imagining them opening a brand new toothbrush or indulging in some new socks or delicious smelling lotions makes my heart soar.

From the bottom of my heart, I thank the citizens of Shorewood and Whitefish Bay who went out of their way to give the above items. I also am so thankful to Stone Creek Coffee who not only provided us a place to collect all the donations but generously provided free lattes to those who gave. I'm very humbled and oh so proud. My expectations were surpassed and my daydreams happily crushed. You all are the best.

If there ever was a doubt whether the Shoreline is home, it was tossed out the window. I'm home. And for that I also thank you.
