2014 Elections just 15 months away and it's time to start following and thinking!

I know that since the 2010 elections it seems we have been in a perpetual campaign mode. With only 15 months to go it’s time to focus again on state and local politics.

This election is critical in many ways and the State Republicans would seem to have a lock on reelection and continued control of state government. The continuous body blows that the Democrats have suffered over the last 2-1/2 years, definitely have them on the ropes looking for some way to make a comeback. I don’t think that the Republicans would have to suffer a catastrophe for the Democrats to regain a foothold in governing.

Anyone who thinks that the Democrats could simply win all the marbles are seriously deluded. The Republicans have two primary areas of weakness and the State Assembly is not one. The State Senate might be the easiest to gain control over. Three seats won by Democrats with no losses would do it and it is doable. The other weakness is Governor Walker. Personally I have felt that he would get reelected, but I can see now that he may be vulnerable. One thing for sure, if he would lose the election it would also foil his ambition to run for president.

The Democrats are going to have to put up a very strong team if they hope to gain back the statehouse during this election cycle. At this point, I think their strongest ticket would be two women; Mary Burke for governor and Lena Taylor for Lt. Governor. These two women are strong and dynamic offering the voter a real choice for a change. MS Burke hasn’t officially announced her candidacy, but she is making strong signals that she is seriously considering it. It will be interesting to follow as it unfolds. MS Burke currently doesn’t have the Democratic leadership’s support.

As usual, I’m all about a balanced approach to governance. Moving the state senate over to the Democrats would do it or for the Democrats to take control of the statehouse. As a bona fide political junkie, I can’t wait for the action to begin.
