What are the Trick-or-Treating Hours in Shorewood?

Trick-or-treating hours will be held on Oct. 27, but village officials are wondering whether it should be moved to Oct. 31 in future years.

Does it really feel like Halloween in the daylight hours on the Sunday before the actual holiday?

Historically, North Shore communities – and those across Milwaukee County –have said "yes." The Shorewood Village Board decided on Tuesday night to continue with that tradition, holding trick-or-treating hours from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Oct. 27.

But Trustee Tammy Bockhorst said it's worth having a community-wide discussion in the future about changing the longstanding Sunday afternoon tradition and moving trick-or-treating hours to the night of Halloween.

"Things have changed considerably in the past 30 or 40 years. And many blocks in Shorewood do conduct their own trick-or-treating on the night of Halloween, so not everyone participates in the Sunday afternoon trick-or-treating," Bockhorst said. "I'm interested in having a discussion in the community and finding out if residents would be interested in continuing Halloween on the same day as a matter of habit or if there is interest in pursuing evening trick-or-treating on Halloween proper."

Bockhorst said the village's Community and Business Relations Committee will continue to discuss the issue, and may possibly conduct a survey of parents in the school district as well as the Shorewood community at large.
