Volunteers Sought for Yard Clean-Up Day

Shorewood volunteers will connect with older and disabled residents to help them winterize their yards on Nov. 2.

Volunteers are sought for the sixth annual “Shorewood Connects” Yard Clean-Up Day, which brings the neighborhood together to rake leaves, clean out garden beds, trim hedges, and empty hoses at the homes of older and disabled adults for whom these tasks would prove difficult. The event lasts from 9 a.m. to noon.

The sponsoring organization of the clean-up day is Shorewood Connects, which seeks to improve the ability of older adults to live in and contribute to the community. The Shorewood partnership, comprised of over 40 members
including the School District of Shorewood, is overseen by the village's Elder Services Advisory Board.

Last year’s Shorewood Connects Yard Clean-Up Day attracted over 120 volunteers; organizers are hoping to recruit 140 volunteers this year to meet an increasing demand for services.

Older and disabled adults seeking more information about yard clean-up should contact Elizabeth Price of the Shorewood Senior Resource Center at (414) 847-2727 or src@villageofshorewood.org.

Village residents interested in volunteering are asked to pre-register with Michelle Boehm, Shorewood Connects Yard Clean Up Coordinator by October 25 at (414) 698-4369 or michelle.boehm@sbcglobal.net.
