Band Camp

The Drum Set Camps will address the stylistic and technical demands of
the drum set player through the musical styles of Jazz, Afro-Cuban,
Brazilian, Funk and Rock. Topics of study include four-way coordination, rudimentary application to the drum set, chart reading, mixed meters,
soloing, feel, time development, analysis of recordings/transcription,
developing practical practice methods, and more. Camp participants will
gain invaluable experience performing with members of our piano, bass
and percussion faculty.


Instructors:
Dave Bayles - camp coordinator, percussion; guests TBA.

Experience: Placement hearing required. Students must
demonstrate proficient fundamental skills on three or more of the
following: 1. Basic rock beat–slow, medium tempos. 2. Basic jazz/swing
beat–slow, medium tempo. 3. Fundamental snare drum technique. Student
may prepare a snare drum etude. 4. Basic reading skills-eighth, quarter,
half, and whole notes.

Placement: Placement hearings will be scheduled during
the week of June 24-28. Please call Student Services at 414-276-5760 to
schedule a time.

Grade Level: Entering Grades 9-12
