Fly A Kite on New Year's Day

The 26th Cool Fool kite festival takes over Veterans Park in Milwaukee on New Year's Day. Family-friendly, the event has lots of chances to see some amazing (and huge) kites, plus try your hand at something a little bit smaller.

Milwaukee County Parks invites you to Veteran’s Park, 1010 N. Lincoln Memorial Drive, to celebrate the New Year on Tuesday, Jan. 1. The Kite Society of Wisconsin & Illinois, and Gift of Wings are presenting the 26th Annual “Cool Fool Kite Festival,” the first kite festival of the new year.

The 26-year Milwaukee tradition takes place on Milwaukee’s beautiful and windy lakefront.  Admission to the kite festival is free. The festival begins at 11 a.m. and runs until 5 p.m.—or until organizers can no longer stand the cold.

Kites and hot food will be available for purchase or you can bring your own.  Free hot chocolate, coffee, and snacks will be provided, compliments of Caribou Coffee while supplies last. A group of local ice carvers will be on hand carving or if you wish you may go for a ride in a horse drawn carriage provided by Milwaukee Coach and Carriage.
