"Chillin" With the Sled Dogs!

The Door County Sled Dogs Are On Vacation!

We finally made it, whew! The team has been working hard to get a break, but as we all know it’s very difficult to get prepared for a vacation. Packing for our trip includes, food for the dogs, food for the humans, clothes for the humans, harnesses and other equipment for the dogs,  equipment for the bus (water, drop lines, bowls), and all the other medicines and necessaries for the dogs. Yet, here we are enjoying our well earned rest.

So what does vacation look like for this team? Our day begins on three and one-half acres of land fenced in so the dogs can romp and play.  The dogs like to get up at 4 a.m. when it starts to get light outside.  They howl and stomp their feet until we get up and let them outside to play and chase until breakfast! It can be pretty great but there is a lot more going on for the team then you might know.

In spite of the "free days of Summer," the dogs are still working, albeit part-time!  They have Meet “N” Greets most Wednesday’s at P.C. Junction, from 12 noon until 1:30 p.m. and Saturday’s at Koepsel’s Farm Market in Baileys Harbor from 11:30 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. (why not join us while in Door county?), and we'll have a really fun time in the Jackson Parade (on highway 60 just south of highway 45) this Sunday!

This is vacation for the hardest working sled dog team in Milwaukee and Door County.  Work, Rest, Work, Rest a great way to spend your summer, don't you think?  How about you and your team, (it only takes one dog), what is your summer looking like for 2013?  What jobs do your dogs have?  What are your favorite summer activities with your dogs?  Share your ideas with us and maybe we can give our team a chance to "Chill" this summer.
