From what is now known, it does not seem that the IRS was politically checking out Tea Parties --- more like regular staffers not being properly trained or too inexperienced with too little supervision or knowledge.
I wonder why Tea Parties or any political parties are able to get non-profit status, but that is a question for another time.
I think that the Republicans in Congress are making this a Really Big Deal because they don't want us to pay too much attention to companies like Apple that are hiding 100's of Billions of Dollars in shady overseas accounts --- they certainly don't want us keeping an eye on that ball, do they!!!
It should make everyone wonder, however, why the Republicans don't want to go after these corporations and ultra rich for the taxes they probably owe --- wouldn't be raising taxes, as the tax rates are already there, they are just hiding their money to avoid the tax --- it just seems that would do a lot to alleviate the deficit and debt --- and maybe, just maybe, they would stop looking at things like Social Security, and Medicare, Medicaid, Education, etc -- to cut --- but in reality, the folks who really, really need those things are not the ones who can or do contribute Million$ to the politicians.
