Shorewood Leaves the Trash Out Again On Holiday Weekend

Shorewood Board finances buildings but does not provide enough resources to pick up the trash.

On the Memorial Day weekend, I reported that there was a large trash pile on the parkway across the street from my house. I called the Shorewood police on Saturday morning, as we were having company over on the weekend, but I was told that it was DPW's responsiblity, and they were closed until Tuesday.

This past weekend (4th of July) there was another trash pile across the street from my house (same landlord owns 3 properties) β€” thinking that I had learned my lesson on the Memorial Day weekend by waiting until Saturday, I called Shorewood DPW first thing on Friday morning, to report the trash pile and get it cleaned up before the holiday weekend.

The gal at DPW told me that there was nothing they could do about it until the following week. She said the Shorewood DPW is understaffed and the trash would have to sit there all holiday weekend.

I think the DPW resources are one of the topics being looked at by the Village Board this coming Monday evening.

Seeing how much we pay in taxes, and the Board's Largesse in financing $8.7 million on a private building on Oakland (Mandel) as a way to make Shorewood more attractive ......... maybe they could make sure that the DPW has the resources to pick up the trash.

I think clean parkways will attract more people to Shorewood than all the buildings they are financing.
