Naturally Shorewood

With the warm weather seemingly sticking around for a while, Chrissy Rose Photography takes you to a somewhat secluded part of natural Shorewood.

As of late, whenever I talk about the weather with anyone in Milwaukee it seems most agree -- we've jumped from winter right into summer. We've certainly had a handful of hot days. But before the temperatures hit their peak, we are greeted with delightful mornings. The morning is a great time of day to explore Shorewood's natural side. It was one of those mornings that I ventured out to one of my favorite spots in Shorewood, Hubbard Park.

I was not introduced to Hubbard Park immediately upon moving here. Once I did finally discover it, I wondered why not more people appreciated the little spot of secluded beauty.

I guess by design it is easily forgotten. It is, after-all, only accessible via tunnels. After finding your way off North Oakland Avenue and behind a strip of shops, restaurants and apartment buildings you finally see signs for Hubbard Park. It looks like nothing more then a parking lot. But once you emerge through the pedestrian tunnel or under the cavern-like vehicle access tunnels, it magically opens up to a retreat along the east bank of the Milwaukee River.

I, for one, enjoy Hubbard Park. It has a lot of history -- once a resort and amusement park. It has a great deal of charm with rustic pavilions, stair cases and lodges. It has lovely wooded areas, picnic tables and river views. While the park is still used by several groups in Shorewood (Boyscout troops,  a popular site for weddings and receptions, Hubbard Park Lodge Friday Fish Fry and Lumberjack Pancake Brunch, home to the Shorewood Women's Club, free summer concerts and the location of the Shorewood Men's Club Easter Egg Hunt each year), it is still often forgotten.

The park is a private and serene area of Shorewood that I believe everyone should explore. Here are a few photos to start you on your journey.
