Sober House in Shorewood to Start Slow, with House Manager

After hearing from skeptical neighbors, the owners of Next Step have decided to look for some live-in supervision.

The owners of Next Step, a soon-to-open sober living house in Shorewood, have revised their plans after village residents about the lack of supervision planned for the home at 4100 N. Woodburn St.

Christine Litwin and Don Myles, who bought the house in May and have been preparing it for recovering addicts to live in a supportive environment, are now looking for a house manager to be their eyes and ears while they are away. Litwin and Myles live together in Port Washington.

Though they originally planned to select six tenants for the duplex β€” a number they said would allow them to break even financially β€” Myles said they will start out with two or three instead.

"The plan right now is to hire a house manager and start out real slow...to get it up and going, and keep it positive and easy to manage," Myles said.

Myles said they plan to eventually allow in more residents if things go smoothly.

Meanwhile, village officials continue their investigation into whether the house can operate without oversight.
