Shorewood Patch Week in Review

In case you missed it, here are some of the stories from last week, you need to know about.

A new art shop is redefining the word vintage in Shorewood with its focus on handmade and repurposed arts and crafts. The Hummingbird Art Boutique is the newest shop to line North Oakland Avenue's booming business district. The artsy shop opened just a week ago at 4415 N. Oakland Ave., but has been a dream of co-owner, artist and physical therapist Leslie Phillips for years.

Trustee candidate Don Ford said if he's elected to the Village Board next week, one of his priorities will be to help bring new families to Shorewood. “It’s really very simple, I’m just passionate about the village,” Ford said. Ford, 59, is one on the board.

State Rep. Sandy Pasch (D-Whitefish Bay) said Tuesday she is considering running against Sen. Alberta Darling, should a recall election happen. “It is all in the discussion phase right now,” Pasch said. “I’m talking about it and Sheldon Wasserman is, so we are just trying to figure out who the best candidate would be.”

Village Trustee Michael Maher says he hopes to remain a member of the Shorewood Village Board to continue to help with the sewer issue, road reconstruction and navigating the village’s budget crunch. Maher, 57, is one on the board.

Despite the recent numbers showing up on our thermometers, spring is just around the corner. It's almost time for the thawing of gardens and planting of flowers and veggies. Trustee candidate Christopher Piotrowski says he is running for Village Board because he wants to ensure Shorewood remains a vibrant and sustainable community for his children, and future generations. Piotrowski, 36, , during the April 5 election.
