School of Rock Rollin' Into Shorewood

A Whitefish Bay native hopes to open School of Rock, a franchise offering classes for young musicians, on Oakland Ave. this fall.

Through the School of Rock, a franchise with more than 100 locations, Marasco wants to teach young musicians how to play instruments like the drums and guitar and form rock ’n roll bands, according to the company’s website.

He has purchased the former Gilda’s Club location at 4050 N. Oakland Ave. and hopes to open in mid-September, according to the Business Journal.

Marasco, who is a Whitefish Bay native currently living in Chicago, told the Business Journal it will be the lone School of Rock location in Wisconsin after a Door County storefront closed.

Following destructive flooding in 2010, Gilda’s Club closed its Shorewood location and has since shifted its headquarters to the Jewish Community Center in Whitefish Bay. The organization provides support and offers resources for those battling cancer.
