The Runaway Meatball Rolls Into Shorewood

The new Sicilian-style pizza restaurant opened its doors Tuesday on the south end of North Oakland Avenue.

The Runaway Meatball opened its doors Tuesday on the south end of North Oakland Avenue in Shorewood.

Proprietor Tom Drilias and his three long-time friends have teamed up to open the Sicilian-style pizza restaurant at 3592 N. Oakland Ave., the former Mama Mia’s storefront.

Runaway Meatball serves Italian sandwiches, chicken wings, speciality hot dogs, a spaghetti and meatball dinner and of course pizza pies. Sides include homemade potato chips, “haystack” onion rings and macaroni and cheese, among other options.

Runaway Meatball will offer carryout and delivery.

Drilias, a North Shore native, has been friends with his partners for decades; one of which founded and ran Upper Crust Pizza in Whitefish Bay for roughly 20 years. After retiring, the four figured they would give opening a pizza shop a-go.
