Organic Pizza Shop Not Coming to Shorewood, After All

Prospective owner says she moved to St. Louis in early January to pursue another opportunity. Shorewood BID director says there's no solid leads, but interest in the storefront.

The prospective owner of an organic pizza restaurant expected to open this spring on North Oakland Avenue has killed plans to open in Shorewood.

In an email to Patch on Monday Lindsay Pennica — who announced plans in late October to open zpizza in the former Performance Running Outfitters space at 4401 N. Oakland Ave. — said she moved to St. Louis in early January to pursue another opportunity. Pennica had hoped to open the restaurant by April 1.

Earlier this winter, Performance Running vacated the space to move down Oakland into the new Ravenna development.

Jim Plaisted, Shorewood Business Improvement District executive director, told Patch Monday there is interest in the storefront.

"I talked to the landlord last week and there are no current solid leads at the space, though there is much interest," Plaisted said in an email.

Two other pizza establishments are expected to open soon including Al Calderone Club setting up shop at 4475 N. Oakland Ave., in the newly-constructed, former Brit Inn space, and the Runaway Meatball, in the storefront that used to house Mama Mia's.

In October, Falbo Bros. Pizzeria opened at 2213 E. Capitol Drive, replacing Salvatore’s.

Just across the street, Thirst & Vine has remained closed since this summer, while the owners seek interested buyers.
