“Does that mean I’m welcome to Shorewood now?” Leibsohn joked.

You won’t have to travel far to pick up this year's Christmas tree as village officials awarded business owner Rick Dassow with a permit to sell holiday trees.

Dassow, who owns Ideal Landscaping and Lawn Care Services, began the tree selling business last year and thought it was “a great success.”

He’ll set up shop again in the parking lot just off of North Oakland Avenue and East Edgewood Avenue. He also plans to sell holiday décor.

“I hope to be sitting here 10 years from now doing the same thing,” said Dassow. “I was considering having reindeer there this year but I don’t think that’s going to happen.”

However, Dassow had to make changes to his fence he puts around the trees because of removal issues he had last year. The fence froze into the ground and wasn’t removed until about late February.

“I now have the tools to take care of it,” he said.

Dassow will begin selling holiday trees November 12 until December 28. The Village Board will review Dassow’s business on November 7 to give their final approval.

The next steps for the businesses are to be accepted for a business license.
