East Coast-Style Pizzeria, Frozen Yogurt Shop Coming Soon

The Roman Candle Pizzeria, a Madison favorite, will open its first Milwaukee-area location in Whitefish Bay. That tops this week's "foodie" news from Patch.

If you love food and exploring new places to eat, or want to find out what eateries are coming and going, we have latest restaurant and other "foodie" news from throughout the Milwaukee area.

Here's a look at what's new on the local food, restaurant and bar scene.

East Coast Style Pizzeria Coming to Milwaukee Area

The Roman Candle Pizzeria, which has three locations in the Madison area, is planning to open its first Milwaukee-area store in Whitefish Bay. First launched in Madison in 2005, The Roman Candle expanded to Middleton in 2007 and Fitchburg in 2010. By September, the company hopes to be serving East-Coast style pizza at 133 E. Silver Spring Drive. Roman Candle's pizza is made from scratch using 50 local ingredients, including grass-fed beef, multiple types of pepperoni and some unique offerings like beets and candied walnuts. Organic Restaurant to Open in Port Washington

"Local" and "organic" are the buzzwords at Twisted Willow in downtown Port Washington, an eatery that is scheduled to open its doors next week. Burgers will feature grass-fed beef from Black Earth Farms, and french fries will be homemade with a press hanging on the kitchen wall of the restaurant. A bratwurst slider menu item will feature bratwurst meat hand-ground by the restaurant. Flatbreads will be homemade, and an Asian barbecue salmon entree will feature locally produced honey. Read more on Port Washington-Saukville Patch.

Muskego Cafe to Have a Home-Grown Feel

Willows also are the theme of the The Willow Tree Cafe, which is scheduled to open in June at the Muskego Centre mall on Janesville Road. Owners Mary and Ken Belmore said the family restaurant will have a uniquely Muskego flair. For example, the cafe will feature the original Muskego Pizza Burger — a longtime local favorite that's a burger that puts the mozzarella inside the seasoned patties. Read more on Muskego Patch.

Yet Another Frozen Yogurt Shop

The frozen yogurt craze continues in the metro area, as Yo Cool Frozen Yogurt, a start-up business, is planning to open in July in Menomonee Falls. The shop, the latest in a string of yogurt shops throughout the area, will be located at the North Pointe Centre on Appleton Avenue. The new company will offer a complete array of frozen yogurt options and toppings inside of a 1,793-square-foot space. Read more on Menomonee Falls Patch.

The Love Handle Opens This Week on East Side

A couple with a background in "meats and sweets" are opening a sandwich shop this week on Milwaukee's East Side. The owners of the Love Handle Food & Drink tell the Journal Sentinel that they are going to "keep it simple" by featuring small plates, sandwiches and desserts, and brunch on Sundays. Prices will be around $10 or less. Read more from the Journal Sentinel.

Tosa Native Whips Up Million-Dollar Potato Chip Flavor

Unlike the rest of this column, this final item isn't about a new restaurant coming to town — but it definitely qualifies as "foodie" news. A Wauwatosa native's potato chip flavor of Cheesy Garlic Bread has won Lay's' "Do Us A Flavor" contest. Karen Weber-Mendham's flavor will become part of the Frito-Lay family and she will get at least $1 million for developing the new flavor.  Weber-Mendham beat out a Brookfield native's flavor of chicken and waffles and an Illinois man's flavor of sriracha.
