Murder Investigation Underway in Shorewood

Clarence Charles, 57, was found dead in his Oakland Avenue apartment building Tuesday night.

The Medical Examiner’s Office has determined that a 57-year-old man found dead in his apartment Tuesday night was murdered.

The victim, identified as Clarence W. Charles, was reported missing at 8 p.m. Tuesday night. Shorewood police entered the apartment and found Charles dead in the apartment. 

Shorewood has not had a murder in more than 20 years. The case remains under investigation.

“We are currently investigating the incident and several possible leads in this case,” police said in a news release. “We do not believe that this was a random act and do not believe that the residents of Shorewood are in danger.”  

The Shorewood Police Department has asked the Wisconsin Crime Lab and the Department of Justice’s Division of Criminal Investigations to assist in the investigation.

WISN 12 News spoke to a woman who lives in the building. She said Charles was a "kind, considerate and wonderful man who had a personality as big as life."

Today's TMJ4 is reporting that Charles worked for Roundy's. The company gave TMJ4 the following statement:

"We are deeply saddened by the loss of our employee, Clarence Charles. Above all else, our thoughts and condolences are with his family during this difficult time. During this grieving process, we are doing everything we can to assist our employees who have been affected in any way, by providing counseling and support."
