Although the start of the school year is still two weeks away, Shorewood student-athletes are already back at school preparing for the fall sports season. Most sports at Shorewood High School are already underway, with the final sport, boys volleyball, set to begin practice on Aug. 26.
This week, the SHS girls tennis team will compete in its first match Wednesday at 9 a.m. at St. Mary’s Central in Neenah. On Friday, the team will travel to the Prairie School for a match at 9 a.m.
The boys soccer team will take part in the Eastside Cup at home this weekend, with its first match against Riverside on Friday at 12 p.m. followed by a match against Messmer at 3 p.m. The team will continue play on Saturday afternoon with the final kickoff time dependent upon the outcome of Friday’s games.
Finally, Shorewood’s varsity football team will take on South Milwaukee at 7 p.m. at home on Friday, while the junior varsity team will play at South Milwaukee at 1 p.m.
New Shorewood Athletic Director LeVar Ridgeway is especially excited to get the fall season kicked-off.
“I am looking forward to experiencing practices, scrimmages and my first taste of athletic competition in Shorewood firsthand,” Ridgeway said. “It’s great to see our student-athletes in action as we near the start of the school year.”
