St. Robert Church to Host Saint John's University Men's Chorus Concert Friday

At 8 p.m. on Friday, March 11, St. Robert Church, 2214 E. Capitol Drive, Shorewood, will host a performance by the Saint John's University Men's Chorus, the select male voice touring ensemble of Saint John's University (SJU) and the College of St. Benedict.

Under the direction of Axel Theimer, the 50 voice choir will perform a range of sacred and secular masterworks from the Renaissance to the 21st century, including compositions by Handl, Hassler, Berkey, Calusen, Hatfield, Weber, Barnum and others. Admission to the concert is free, though donations to help support the Chorus's traveling expenses will be accepted.

Since its inception in 1948, the Chorus has been known for its beautiful free sound, perfect blend, musicianship, detail to interpretation of text and music, innovative programming and spirited singing. Director Axel Theimer, a former member of the Vienna Boy's Choir, has directed the Chorus since joining the music facility at SJU and the College of St. Benedict in 1969.
