See MPTV's 'Around the Corner' Episode Showcasing Village before Aired on TV

The Milwaukee Public Television program, hosted by actor John McGivern, dives into the secrets, interesting tidbits in different Wisconsin communities. The season premiere features Shorewood and will be shown Jan. 3 at Discovery World.

Shorewood residents are invited to an early screening of the second season premiere of Milwaukee Public Television's "Around the Corner," showcasing the village.

Running 6:30 and 7:30 p.m. on Jan. 3 at MPTV's Community Cinema at Discovery World, 500 N. Harbor Dr., the episode features local businesses, interviews with organizations like the Shorewood Table Tennis Club and dives into the history behind Atwater Beach and Hubbard Park, among other Shorewood hot spots. 

The episode will also feature interviews with Shorewood High School Principal Matt Joynt and retired drama director Barb Gensler, as well as a scene from the spring musical, "Aida."

The episode will air on TV Jan. 10 at 7 p.m. on Channel 10.1, and repeat on Jan. 11 at 8 p.m. on Channel 36.1.

Hosted by Emmy award-winning actor John McGivern, viewers are led on unique field trips through Wisconsin towns and neighborhoods discovering their secrets and history. In all of the episodes he bumps into local historian John Gurda, who shares fascinating historical gems about town settlers, buildings, parks and neighborhoods.

McGivern and Gurda will be on hand during the early screening. Free DVD copies of the episode will also be available.

In the show's first season, McGivern showcased villages like Greendale and Wauwatosa and neighborhoods like RiverwestBrady Street and the Third Ward, to name a few.
