UWM to Hold Remembrance Thursday for Victims of Sikh Temple Shooting

The ceremony will take place in the Fireside Lounge in the campus Student Union, 2200 E. Kenwood Blvd. UWM Chancellor Michael Lovell will give an address and those who attend will have the opportunity to speak and reflect.

The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee will hold a remembrance at 2 p.m. Thursday to honor the victims of in Oak Creek that occurred on Sunday.

The ceremony will take place in the Fireside Lounge in the campus Student Union, 2200 E. Kenwood Blvd. It's being organized by the Division of Student Affairs, according to the university's website.

UWM Chancellor Michael Lovell will give an address and those who attend will have the opportunity to speak and reflect.

“We will be hosting a university gathering to create a campus conversation, honor victims, and show solidarity with those in the Sikh community,” said Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs Michael Laliberte in a statement Thursday.

The Student Division will be creating a program that includes community and campus resources, and provide information about how to contribute to a fund that supports the victims of the shooting. Those attending will be invited to write remarks on cards that will be delivered to the Oak Creek Sikh Temple.
