Milwaukee Historian to Give Talk on Evolution of County Park System

John Gurda will discuss how Milwaukee's "stellar — and much-endangered — park system" has evolved over decades at the Hubbard Park Lodge 6 p.m. on Tuesday.

Milwaukee County holds 15,000 acres of public green space, but it wasn’t always that way, says Milwaukee historian John Gurda.

Gurda will give a talk on the evolution of Milwaukee’s “stellar — and much-endangered — park system from the days of tiny public squares and private beer gardens to the abundant challenges of the present."

The event starts at 6 p.m. at , 3565 N. Morris Blvd.

Gurda's talk is part of , which seeks to address “non-point” sources of pollution or harmful substances that mix with storm water on its way to the river and lake, and educate residents about Shorewood’s two water sources — Lake Michigan and the Milwaukee River.
