Bernie Brewer, Air Bango in the Village Wednesday for Summer Celebration

The library's annual event includes Milwaukee sports mascot battles, trolley rides and free ice cream sundae.

Bernie Brewer, Air Bango, Roscoe and Brad Beach will battle their way through Shorewood, Wednesday, during the Shorewood Library’s annual Summer Celebration.

Milwaukee sports mascots from the Milwaukee Brewers, Bucks, Admirals and Wave will battle in a race and dance competition from 6 to 8 p.m at the , 3920 N. Murray Ave.

“It’s a fun event for the kids,” Shorewood Librarian Heide Piehler said.

And, children will get their chance to compete with the mascots Piehler said.

The competition will be toned down just a bit, because of the heat and the library will block off a portion of North Murray Avenue during the mascot competition, Piehler said.

But, the event isn't limited to battles for mascot supremacy, as there will also be trolley rides of Shorewood historical landmarks, a Culver’s ice cream sundae bar, a Milwaukee County Sheriff horse-mounted unit, music and face painting.

Somewhere between 600 to 800 attended last year's event and Piehler is hoping the heat doesn't discourage residents from coming out and enjoying the event.

The group Friends of Shorewood Library funded this year's event Piehler said.

"It's a sort of thank you to the community for their support of the library throughout the year," Piehler said.

Shorewood's Sendik's and the Shorewood Women's Club are also contributing to the Summer Celebration.
