Severe Winds Uproot Tree, Bring Power Outages

No one was harmed when severe winds rolled through Shorewood and uprooted a tree, which came crashing down onto a home in the 2000 block of East Beverly Road Tuesday afternoon. The storm also knocked out power for roughly 900 homes.

Windy conditions rolled through Shorewood Tuesday afternoon, causing more than just area power outages.

In the 2000 block of East Beverly Road, a tree was uprooted and crashed into a home.

David Freund and his family were in the home Skyping with other family members when the tree came crashing down.

"We actually turned the laptop to show them how much the wind was blowing the tree, and next thing we knew," he said.

Freund and his family were unharmed and the tree caused only minor damage to the home's gutters and a porch railing.

Shorewood Department of Public Works crews were on the scene dismantling the tree and throwing it into a wood chipper.

The wind also knocked out power for roughly 900 in Shorewood, 2,633 in Whitefish Bay, 400 in Fox Point and thousands more in the Milwaukee metro area, according to the We Energies outage map. Power was restored to all Shorewood homes overnight.
