Power Restored in Shorewood after Electricity Knocked Out for 1,800

Efforts to repair the cable were slowed somewhat because it was located underground, making it difficult to pinpoint where the problem occurred.

Updated at 5:15 p.m. Saturday

Hundreds of Shorewood homes and businesses were without power for a little more than an hour Saturday, but electricity had been restored throughout the village by 5:15 p.m.

When the power was first knocked out shortly before 4 p.m. because of a malfunctioning underground cable, more than 1,800 homes and businesses were affected.

By 5 p.m., about 700 We Energies customers in Shorewood remained without power.

The area affected was near East Olive Street and North Maryland Avenue.

Efforts to repair the cable were slowed somewhat because it was located underground, making it difficult to pinpoint where the problem occurred, a We Energies spokeswoman said.

The power is back on now (came on at about 4:40pm). According to WE Energies, the outages that have occurred recently are the fault of the construction crews working on The Lighthorse Building.

Good to know! When I ask We energy; they tell me it is a squirrel! Wow! Shorewood has some obese squirrels but I don't think they are 'bionic'. Thanks for the truth.

Amazing! The Electric is being up graded. There has been six We Energy trucks on Jarvis between Farwell and Maryland Ave. for about a week! So much for squirrels!
