My New Year’s Resolution — Milwaukee Winter Bucket List

This year, my wife had a wonderful idea - “instead of typical New Year’s Resolutions, let’s make a Milwaukee Winter Bucket List."

I really struggled with making my New Year’s Resolutions this year. While many people will make the commitment to get in shape, lose weight, eat right, stop smoking, or get out of debt, we know major resolutions like these rarely stick. It is just too difficult to make massive changes all at once. It is better to make smaller adjustments over time.

This year, my wife had a wonderful idea — “instead of typical New Year’s Resolutions, let’s make a Milwaukee Winter Bucket List.” We sat down and came up with a list of the things we really want to do in Milwaukee this winter, and committed to make time (and money available) to do them. Here is our list:

Bucket List

Item 1
What: Ice Skate On A Lake
Where: Washington Park (or other)
Cost: Free (With $35 Urban Ecology Center Annual Family Membership)

Item 2
What: Learn How To Snowshoe
Where: The Urban Ecology Center
Cost: $7 per person

Item 3
What: Learn How To Cross Country Ski
Where: The Urban Ecology Center
Cost: $6 per person ($9 for non-members)

Item 4
What: Ride Sled Dogs
Where: 5879 S. 92nd St., Franklin
Cost: $15 per person

Item 5
What: Go Sledding
Where: Plenty of great locations
Cost: Free

Item 6
What: Go Tubing
Where: Sunburst Ski Area
Cost: $16 per person for 2 hours

Item 7
What: Go to a Milwaukee Admirals Hockey Game
Where: BMO Harris Bradley Center
Cost: $18-$24 per person (free for us since my wonderful mother-in-law gave us tickets for Christmas)

So this is what we have on our list to do in the next 3 months. What else would you recommend adding to this list? We would love additional ideas!

Does your Mother-in-law read your columns? If so the sucking up is weird. If not, why suck up?
