Freshmen Get an Introduction to Life at SHS

Shorewood Schools will host a freshman orientation and a School Board meeting Tuesday night.

The transition to a new school can be tough.

Luckily, freshmen and new students going into Shorewood High School can get all the information they need to know for the upcoming school year at an orientation meeting Tuesday night in the Shorewood High School auditorium. The meeting starts at 7 p.m.

Meanwhile, at the high school library, the School Board will meet for a closed session meeting at 6 p.m. and convene into open session at 7 p.m. Here's the agenda.

The board will consider hiring Katherine Madlung as a part-time special education teacher at Lake Bluff Elementary School, Amy Guthrie as a kindergarten teacher at Lake Bluff Elementary School, Iris Binor as a part-time art teacher at SIS and SHS, and Candice Zurbuchen as a language arts teacher at SIS.

The board will also consider approving contracts for Special Education Director Jeffrey Cyganiak and Shorewood Intermediate School Principal Mark Harris.

Lake Bluff Principal Kirk Juffer will also ask the board's permission to expand the school's mindfulness training program, which is designed to enhance focus, reduce stress and get along with others. The program started in three classrooms last year, and under the proposal, it would be expanded to all classrooms in grades 1 through 6. The training would take 20 minutes twice a week for 10 weeks.
