Year in Review — No. 9: Man Threatened to Blow Up Village Hall, Shorewood Apartments

No. 9 — Police: Homeless Man Threatened to Blow Up Village Hall, Shorewood Apartments

Residents were forced to evacuated their homes at a Shorewood apartment complex as police combed the buildings with bomb-sniffing dogs after a threat was called in on Aug. 27.

Following the threat being made, a 50-year-old Milwaukee man was arrested at the scene.

The man — Shorewood police indentified as Thomas Yela — called an intervention center and then Milwaukee police and threatened to blow up the “Shorewood court” and an unknown assisted living facility, later determined to be the River Park Apartments, at approximately 4:06 p.m., according to police.

Yela has since been charged and pled guilty to the charge
