An elderly man was taken to the hospital Jan. 21 after he hit several cars in the Shorewood High School parking lot, sparking his car on fire. He suffered from an undetermined medical condition prior to the crash.
Around 2:30 p.m., the man hit five legally parked, unoccupied cars in the lot, before jumping the curb and coming to a rest in the northeast corner.
Two Shorewood police officers were later honored by village officials for their daring rescue of the driver, just minutes before a small explosion erupted inside the car.
