Where to Find a Christmas Tree in the North Shore
Your guide to finding pre-cut Christmas trees and cut-your-own Christmas tree farms north of Milwaukee.
It's about that time of year when families go on the hunt for the perfect Christmas tree.
There's nothing like picking out a fresh Christmas tree. Some families like to make a day of it, trekking across acres of spruces, firs and pines with a hot cup of cider. Others prefer the convenience of a nearby parking lot sale.
If you don't already have a favorite tree locale — or even if you do — here are a few suggestions to help you on your hunt for the perfect tree:
- Ideal Property Management will offer fresh-cut Christmas trees for sale in the empty lot near North Oakland Avenue and East Edgewood Avenue in Shorewood. The lot will be open daily from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. starting Nov. 21 through Dec. 24, though it will be closed on Thanksgiving. The lot will also sell wreaths starting at $15, and trees will start at $20.
- Ideal will also set up shop at Bay Ridge and Silver Spring, adjacent to Dominican High School in Whitefish Bay, from Nov. 21 through Dec. 24. The lot will be open daily from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. A free raffle will be held for a tree lot gift certificate valued at $150. The lot will also sell wreaths starting at $15, and trees will start at $20.
- Holy Family Parish School in Whitefish Bay will hold its 10th annual Christmas tree sale every Saturday in December from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Sundays from 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. in the Holy Family parking lot at 4849 N Wildwood Ave. Volunteers will be available to give your tree a fresh cut and load it on your car for transportation. Proceeds from the sale will go to Holy Family Parish School.
- Bayside Garden Center received its Christmas trees on Nov. 14. The business, located at 400 West Brown Deer Road, is open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Saturdays and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sundays.
- Stumpf's Tree Farm, located at 340 Horns Corners Road in Cedarburg, allows customers to browse through 30 acres of greenery and cut their own tree.
- Trees for Less Nursery, at 11550 Wasaukee Road in Mequon, will sell Christmas tres and wreaths starting Nov. 23 through Dec. 23. The nursery allows customers to come in and chop down their own tree from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday.
- Noffke Tree Farms, at 10341 North Granville Road in Mequon, will start selling Christmas trees on Thanksgiving Weekend. Customers can choose and cut their own tree on the 47-acre tree farm. The farm is open from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Grammarians, can I get a ruling on the headline? "In" the north shore does not seem appropriate because the north shore is not a political or geographic entity with borders, and it seems that in this context, IN would mean INside those borders. "On" the north shore would seem more appropriate, since there is a shoreLINE and the "north shore" extends west some undefined distance.

You may want to be more concerned that some of the places listed are out of the area that is generally accepted as the "North Shore". Or that a north shore would generally be located to the north of a body of water, but then we would get into the whole Brown Deer issue.

Oh. The ruling on the field stands, the headline is appropriate.

I agree with Greg except that I would say that 'North shore' could apply to the northern part of a populated area that is on the lake (not necessarily on the north side of the lake).

Unless you want to dig into the whole "Find" issue or the "a" tree issue.

But if you're on an island the north shore would be south of the body of water.

At least the editors are getting better at defining what cities are actually in the area that is generally accepted as the 'North Shore'. I remember some of those 'Reader's Choice' articles that was looking for the 'Best ____ in the North Shore' with selections located in places like Germantown...

If one is on an island, wouldn't both the North shore and South shore of that island be within the body of water?
Greg

Could be, but then you would have to define "the" body of water.

Wouldn't the definition of 'island' define the body of water to the extent that it touches the North and South shores of the island?

MMM... Robert's Custard in Germantown. You probably will be able to find a Christmas Tree there, I don't think it would be a place to purchase one.

Well, the body of water needs to be defined because while a body of water may be contiguous with the other water around the island, it may have a different name. Take Greenland as an example, the north shore is located in the Greenland Sea while the south shore is on the North Atlantic. If you were in a boat, you probably would not notice going from one body of water to the other.

Or it could be the Artic Ocean on the north shore, I'd need map, but the idea holds true.

What if I am on the island community of Thiensville?
It is completely surrounded by Mequon.

Thiensville West Shore or Thiensville East Shore?

I hope that Ideal Property Management has a better supplier, with fresher trees. I bought one there last year. I ended up with a 2" pile of needles around the bottom of the tree by the time I was done decorating it. I've never had a drier tree.

The parking lot at the Chalet motel in Mequon on Port and Donges Bay has excellent trees and nice employees. I would not purchase a tree from someone called Ideal Property Management. You'd think during the holidays they could rename themselves like Ideal christmas trees or something.

While Kellners Greenhouse is technically in Milwaukee and not within the southern border of the north shore, I found a really nice tree and a beautiful door wreath there last year. If I can't get out of the city to cut one down, I'll go back for a tree this year-- it's close and it's local.
