Here's a look at what's coming up this week in Shorewood. If we're missing something, you can add it to the calendar.

Village officials talk sewer repairs — As the village prepares to move forward with its comprehensive plan to fix its faulty sewer system, officials will meet Monday night to discuss implementing a stormwater utility and financing of future sewer projects.

Major improvements to the system could start as early as this summer.

The meeting starts at 6:30 p.m. in the Village Center, 3920 N. Murray Ave. (lower level of the Shorewood Public Library).

School Board meeting — The Shorewood School Board could choose a recruiter to help the district find a new superintendent to fill retiring school chief Blane McCann's shoes, at a regular meeting on Tuesday. The item isn't on the most recent agenda released late last week, but School Board President Paul Zovic said the board could take action on Tuesday.

The board could also consider one teacher’s retirement request, update several district policies and provide updates to the employee handbook and website upgrade.

The meeting starts at 7 p.m., in the little theater at Lake Bluff Elementary, 1600 E. Lake Bluff Blvd.

Elementary schools perform — Fourth through sixth grade choral students at Atwater will perform on Wednesday, with first through third graders at Atwater and Lake Bluff students singing on Thursday.

The concerts happen at their respective school and start at 7 p.m.

Preps sports — After a tough loss to Pewaukee last week, the 7-7 (4-7) Shorewood boys basketball team will try to pick up a win against Cudahy during a home game on Friday.

The girls basketball squad travels to Cudahy Friday for their lone game of the week. They are coming off a win over University School and are 4-10 (3-8) on the season.

All games start at 7:30 p.m. and home games are played at Shorewood High School, 1701 E. Capitol Dr.

The Whitefish Bay-Shorewood-Nicolet combined hockey team will battle with Kenosha on Wednesday. The storm are 9-7-1 (3-3-0) this season. The match starts at 6 p.m. The Storm plays at the Kern Center in downtown Milwaukee, 1245 N. Broadway St.

Children in the digital age — Do you feel outpaced by your technologically-savvy kids? Social networking sites have morphed into a regular medium for teens and adults to exchange information about themselves, share pictures and videos, and use blogs and private messaging to communicate with friends, and sometimes even the world-at-large. 

Are these tools hindering the development of relationship skills for teens? Perhaps not.

But, with issues of online bullying and rumor spreading, identity theft, blogging and the real threat of sexual predators, it is important to be aware of the possible pitfalls that come with networking online.

Guest speaker Jacques du Plessis will be at North Shore Presbyterian Church, 4048 N. Bartlett Ave., at 9:15 a.m. on Sunday to give a lecture on the issue.
