What's the Fate of Thirst & Vine in Shorewood?

Owner John Nehring says he's trying to sell his popular North Oakland Avenue wine bar and restaurant before his lease expires Feb. 1.

The future of Thirst & Vine in Shorewood is up in the air as owner John Nehring focuses on renovations and sales at his local Sendik's grocery store amid construction of a development in its parking lot and getting a new wood-fired pizza shop in the Milwaukee Public Market up and running.

The storefront is on the market. Owner John Nehring said he's in the process of selling the local wine bar and restaurant, and he has one interested buyer. Nehring's lease for his storefront at 4330 N. Oakland Ave. expires Feb. 1.

"If I'm not able to sell it, I'm not sure what I'll do with it," he said.

The shop remains closed temporarily for renovations, evident from a sign taped to its door.

This is unfortunate. Thirst and Vine was a great restaurant.

I'm looking forward to seeing what goes in--glad there's already an interested party.

This is what happens when the village provides financial assistance to bring in a direct competitor.

This is what happens when things are GIVEN to people. That is not the free market and NOT good for the future.

Ask our favorite lunatic, hand-out taker, Keith. He will tell you.
