If you weren't able to make the free showing or forgot to tune to Milwaukee Public Television on Thursday when it first hit the air, don't fret — the second season premiere of "Around the Corner with John McGivern," featuring Shorewood, is available online in its entirety.

Emmy award-winning actor John McGivern leads unique field trips through Wisconsin towns and neighborhoods discovering their secrets and history. In all of the episodes he bumps into local historian John Gurda, who shares fascinating historical gems about town settlers, buildings, parks and neighborhoods.

When McGivern visited Shorewood this summer, he ran into Gurda in Hubbard Park. He also chats with business owners at Goody Gourmets, Benji's Deli, Vanity Fur and Chattel Changers, drops by the Wisconsin Gazette newsroom, explores historic landmarks like the so-called "Mushroom House" on North Lake Drive and interviews with Village President Guy Johnson and Shorewood High School Principal Matt Joynt, among others.

Love this piece on Shorewood--I recognize some of my neighbors. I think it does a great job of capturing not only the culture here but the beauty of the place. I feel spoiled living so close to the river, Hubbard Park, the Oak Leaf Trail, and Atwater beach. And to have such terrific people here, too!
Also, while we don't have a bookstore, alas, we did try as a community to set up a cooperative that, unfortunately, didn't make it. But we do have a fantastic library and lots of neighbors putting up little library boxes on their lawns. This place is certainly a haven for book lovers!

Who are the 'lots of neighbors putting up little library boxes'? I only know of one in Shorewood--on lake drive.

We just deleted several comments that were personal attacks against Keith Schmitz. He has nothing to do with the article. Please keep the discussion civil.

There's a library box north of Capitol, west of Oakland--can't remember what street.

OK--that would make a total of two...

There is one east of Oakland North of Capitol, maybe Olive.

How far east? I think the one I referred to above is at Lake Drive and Olive...

The 'Little Free Library' site lists 2 in Shorewood. One at Woodburn, a bit North of Olive, the other on Lake Drive, a bit North of Olive.

The one I am referring to is not the Lake drive one. It is between Oakland and Maryland either Olive or Marion, perhaps it is gone or not on the registry. Nice idea though. I encourage more. Where I am the thing might get stolen or hit. The stole my christmas decorations what is to stop them from stealing my little library.

I think I know where that is. On my way home from work yesterday, I drove on Olive between Murray and Maryland, and on the North side of the street, there appeared to be what could be a Little Library. It had the right size and shape, but was covered with a gray tarp. Perhaps it is 'closed' for the winter.

The one on Woodburn would be the one I mistook for being on Morris.

Not surprising--I think Morris turns into Woodburn at some point...

My mistake--A look at the map shows that they are 1 block apart until Morris meets Cumberland...

So now that we've established the location of the library, who's ready to go burn some books!?
