Village Hit with Several Car Break-ins, Auto Theft

A car was stolen, and later recovered, and several car break-ins and thefts from autos were reported this week in Shorewood.

 

A car was stolen, and later recovered, and several car break-ins and thefts from autos were reported this week in Shorewood.

A 1997 Toyota Avalon stolen from the driveway of a house in the 2000 block of East Jarvis Street overnight on Tuesday was recovered on Wednesday in the 4400 block of North Oakland Avenue. Police say there was no damage, but the car had been driven 104 miles.

On Wednesday morning, a car parked in the 3500 block of North Oakland Avenue was illegally entered. A $150 pool cue, $380 in tattoo equipment, a pair of sunglasses were taken. Additionally, $50 in damage was reported to the interior of the car.

Sometime between 10 p.m. on Tuesday and 6 p.m. on Wednesday, an unlocked car parked in an open garage was illegally entered and a gas card and BP card taken.

Sometime overnight on Dec. 11, a locked car parked in the 1800 block of East Lake Bluff Boulevard was entered and $2 in coins and a checkbook was taken. A check from the stolen book was written out for $300 and cashed. The owner of the car told police the lock on one of the doors malfunctions. The break-in was reported to police on Thursday.

On Wednesday, a Snap-On tool kit worth $1,200 was taken from the back of a pick-up truck parked in the 4000 block of North Wilson Drive. 

Another car break-in occurred on Thursday, but a police report was not available as of Friday morning.
