Village Board Will Discuss Sewer Rates, Parking Lot
Trustees will consider a rate increase of 33 percent in 2013, followed by an increase of 9 percent in 2015.
Ths Shorewood Village Board will meet Monday night to decide how much the sewer rate will increase in the next two years.
Without a rate increase, the village's sewer utility fund would face a cash deficit by the end of the year. The board discussed three possible options in January, and now, village staff is recommending the board move forward with a rate increase of 33 percent in 2013 ($28 quarterly increase, $113 annually), followed by an increase of 9 percent in 2015 ($10 quarterly increase, $41 annually).
The village's debt is related to sewer improvements conducted in the northwestern portion of the village, on North Downer Avenue and sewer maintenance. A rate increase would be effective beginning Feb. 15, meaning the increase will show up on bills received in June.
At the Monday night meeting, the Shorewood Village Board will also discuss alternatives to increase available parking stalls in and around the Village Center parking lot.
