Tweed Funk Fields WAMI Nominations for Third Consecutive Year

After being named the r&b/soul artist of the year last year, the local blues-soul-funk-hip-hop group hopes to capture the award again, and three other awards.

For the third year in a row, local blues-soul-funk-hip-hop group Tweed Funk has fielded nominations for the Wisconsin Area Music Industry Awards.

After being named the r&b/soul artist of the year last year, the group hopes to capture the award again, in addition individual awards of best male vocalist, best bass player and best brass/reeds player.

This year's nomination for best male vocalist marks lead singer Joseph "Smokey" Holman's second consecutive nomination in that category.

The Wisconsin Area Music Industry is a volunteer organization whose purpose is to educate and recognize the achievements and accomplishments of individuals in the Wisconsin music industry.

Nominations were chosen from ballots submitted by members of WAMI. The general public can submit votes for their favorite artist, radio station, music teacher and music venue through Friday at wamimusic.com.

The 33rd annual awards will be held April 14, at the Turner Hall Ballroom in Milwaukee.

Tweed Funk has a host of shows coming up including a performance at Buddy Guy's Legends in Chicago on March 14, the GBA Blues Bash at Shank Hall March 15, and Swing with SEED on March 16. The group will donate a performance as a SEED auction item.
