This Knock Knock Is No Joke

Despite daily Democrats showing up on Sara's doorstep, she maintains her political prowess.

Knock, Knock.

Wait. What?

Living in the age of smart phones, email, facebook and twitter, it's almost unheard of that a friend or family member would simply show up on my doorstep unannounced. And if they did, my only logical assumption would be that they were abducted by martians, stripped of all their Earthly belongings and beamed straight to my house.

Packages are no different. Well, minus the martian part. I order something and track that sucker from the time it leaves it's origin until the time it steps off the truck on my street. At that point, I know the doorbell is being rung by a man wearing brown, my purchase in hand.

When I was a downtown resident, my buzzer was hardly rung, except for visiting friends in the know and the seasonal drunk Summerfest goer who liked to play chopsticks on the buzzer buttons at midnight.

That sounds annoying, right? Well, I've found the doorstep dwellers in the Shoreline are even more obnoxious.

What could possibly beat buzzer chopsticks?

Political canvassers spreading the good word. The good liberal word.

It's well documented and discussed that I'm a proud Conservative treading water in an ocean filled with Liberal steamboats. This was a decision I made by moving to an area of our state that puts me into a political minority. And I'm OK with that.

Until that comes knocking on my door. Over and over and over.

A few months back I posted a "No Soliciting" sign on the front of my flat hoping that would cease my having to play the "Should I or Shouldn't I" game.

Should I go have it out with yet another political paper pusher? Or should I pretend I wear only blue so they will peacefully slink away feeling a job well done?

Thankfully after all the recall petitions were submitted and counted the incessant house calls died down. But then the recall election was on. And back to business the canvassers went, much to my doorbell's dismay, as it's gotten quite the workout as of late.

Most recently I had numerous gentlemen at my door from We Are Wisconsin and Democracy For America. When I asked them if they had noticed my "No Soliciting" sign they replied they had but it did not apply to them. Curious to this assumption I asked why.

"Because I'm from We Are Wisconsin/Democracy For America," was the response.

Oh. Well, alrighty then.

While I realize my homemade sign poses no legality when it comes to those wanting to solicit political views at my home, I question the need to do so with such repetition.

If I don't answer the door literature will be posted on it. Daily my mailbox is propped open with oversized anti-Alberta pro-Pasch fliers. All from third party organizations. All oh so very annoying.

I have yet to receive one piece of mail or one knock on my door from a source supporting my choice, Senator Darling. Which is fine by me. My annoyance level is at DEFCON, cut it the heck out.

Leading up to Aug. 9, I'll be putting my vote for Alberta Darling into the ballot box and chucking Sandy Pasch into another.

My recycling box.

Note: Sara contacted We Are Wisconsin and Democracy For America asking for their input on this piece but neither took her up on her offer.
