Learn more about Shorewood police and take an inside look at the day-to-day operations  department's annual citizens' academy.

Police are now accepting applications for the nine-week course starting Feb. 28.

The academy increases understanding between the participants and the department through education and interaction with officers, helping residents to become more familiar with its local police.

Some of the topics covered in the academy are: OWI laws, traffic enforcement, criminal law and the criminal justice system, defensive tactics, firearms, domestic violence, drugs, and crime prevention. Participants also ride along with patrol officers from the Shorewood Police Department.

Interested parties must be at least 18-years-old, and must live, work, or own property within the village. Certain exceptions are made for those enrolled interested in or currently enrolled in a Criminal Justice program.

Find applications on the police department's website, or stop into the station.
