Shorewood Teen Surfer Featured on ESPN

Blake Meisinger, 15, was featured within the pages of ESPN.com on Thursday as part of an article on International Surfing Day. The national sports news outlet spotted the Shorewood High School junior taking in the waves in Sheboygan.

Thursday marked International Surfing Day.

And, Shorewood's resident teenaged surfer-dude Blake Meisinger celebrated the only way he knew how.

In honor of the day, ESPN posted a photo gallery of surfers hanging ten from around the world, two of which featured Meisinger riding some Great Lakes waves in Sheboygan.

Patch caught up with the Shorewood High School junior last summer and talked to him about his love for surfing Lake Michigan at Atwater Beach.

I drive by Atwater Park/Beach numerous times each week. Though, I have not taken the time to stop and take a look to see what the new equipment on the beach looks like or where it is situated. Any photos forthcoming?

Hey AbFab, the Friends of Atwater Beach say they are still waiting on the equipment to be delivered, so it hasn't been installed on the beach yet. I'll grab some photos as soon as the equipment's on the beach.

Any word on the ETA? Seriously, has this equipment been paid for? I guess I find it strange that June 23rd was repeatedly mentioned during the approval proocess so they could get this equipment installed for the big event. Maybe I'm missing something, but w/ this equipment not being cheap by any means and the economy still stagnating, I would think that the company would get this equipment out the door ASAP and installed once they had the money and especially since they were probably in the loop on how important June 23rd was.

Better yet, July 4th and the extended weekend that accompanies this holiday is right around the corner. Will it be delivered/installed/paid for by then?

It's been nice to see the beach full of people. I have noticed the last couple of nights during my evening walk that they are doing some boot camps down there at night and a lot of people using the path and stairs for exercise. We have a great treasure here. I hope the water warms up soon.

I have been informed that the company installing this equipment would like to do it ASAP but need to wait for the weather to cool off. Heavy equipment will be used and driven down the asphalt service path. Hot weather, steep incline and heavy machinery pounding the pavement are not a good mix.

Mid July is the target date for install, yet once again it's dependant on cooler weather ie 70's.

That's what I was told.
