Resident Retrieves Stolen Van Using Technology to Trace Its Location

After a Shorewood man found his van stolen, he tracked an iPad left in the car, confronted the thief at a local Walmart and retrieved the vehicle.

A Shorewood man took matters into his own hands Thursday after realizing his car had been stolen.

The man told police his van was stolen from his driveway in the 3500 block of North Lake Drive, sometime between 3:23 and 3:50 p.m. The car was unlocked with the car keys in the driver’s seat at the time of theft, according to the police report.

However, the thief took off with an iPad in the car, which the man told police he used to trace the van to a Walmart in Milwaukee.

The men traveled to the retail store, found his van, confronted the car thief and retrieved the stolen van, all without police assistance.

Good for him! if you know where your stuff is when it is taken, the police should be more than happy to help you get it back. I have heard people say "I have traced it here or there" and the police say "we will look into that" and by the time they do, its gone. I dont see why they arent happy they have less work to do? Good for this guy!
