Efforts to gather the 21,000 signatures needed to recall state Sen. Alberta Darling began in Shorewood Saturday, as volunteers and petitioners canvassed neighborhoods armed with clipboards.

Leader of the effort, Kristopher Rowe, said he's confident the group can gather the signatures as there has been a lot support for the recall effort thus far.

Volunteers met Saturday at the 2510 E. Capitol Drive in Shorewood, the law office of Mark Sweet. They will go to all corners of the district, Rowe said, adding that it may take several weekends to get the 25,000 to 28,000 signatures that is their goal.
