Prison for Barber Who Made Child Pornography
David P. Foley, a Shorewood resident who ran Sport 'n Cuts in Whitefish Bay, was sentenced to 28 years in federal prison for molesting a child and creating child pornography during the sexual assaults.
The former Whitefish Bay barber who molested local boys and made child pornography will be spending decades in prison, after a federal sentencing hearing this week.
David P. Foley, 51, of Shorewood, the former owner of Sport 'n Cuts, 402 E. Silver Spring, was convicted in United States District Court in the Eastern District of Wisconsin of three counts of production of child pornography, and one count each of transportation of a minor across state lines to engage in a sex act, distribution of child pornography and possession of child pornography.
He faced between 15 and 160 years in federal prison. He was sentenced Friday to 28 years in federal prison and 10 years supervised release, according to court records. That sentence will start after he completes the 10 years in state prison he was given for a check-fraud scheme.
Foley was convicted in November 2012, following a jury trial. The charges come after an investigation that began in August 2010, according to a press release from the United States Attorney's Office in Milwaukee.
Fox 6 News contacted the Wisconsin Department of Justice Division of Criminal Investigation that month and said a cardboard mailer had been sent to the station, according to the release. Inside was a DVD, sent anonymously, that contained images of child pornography and a typed letter, saying the disc had been discovered in a Whitefish Bay trash bin.
The investigation led DCI agents to Foley, who had been telling people his landlord was "going to be in trouble," and that they should "watch the news."
In December 2010 Foley claimed he had found a laptop bag behind the barbershop and that the laptop contained child pornography, the release stated. But as agents investigated, they discovered the pornography had been loaded onto the laptop after its purchase, and that Foley had purchased the laptop.
When agents searched his apartment, according to the release, they found a computer there with the same images of child pornography that had been burned onto the DVD mailed to Fox 6.
As agents went through the computers, the release stated, they discovered Foley had videotaped the molestation of a 14-year-old boy, and later learned he had taken the boy to a hotel near the Mall of America in March 2011, where he also sexually assaulted the teen.
