Pizza Man to Open on Downer Avenue this Summer
More than three years after it went up in flames, the popular East Side restaurant will once again serve up slices come June.
More than three years after a four-alarm fire destroyed the East North Avenue mainstay, Pizza Man will make its much-anticipated return to Milwaukee's east side this summer.
A few blocks south of the Shorewood border, Mike Amidzich hopes to open the restaurant in June at the corner of North Downer Avenue and East Belleview Place, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel's Carol Deptolla writes.
Pizza Man will fill the first and second floors of the building and include a second-story patio for outdoor dining.
The owner tells Deptolla he is still working out the menu, which will include some old customer favorites and some vegetarian options, but the restaurant will continue to offer his notable, award-winning wine menu.

Thanks for the heads up. There will be time to lose weight in anticipation of the opening.

Even though the new Pizza Man will be located in the belly of the beast I will have to venture in from time to time. The Progressive vermin are already trying to take my liberty; I cannot let them take my pizza.

Hey weirdo--Downer Ave's patrons look a lot like Waukesha's these days, so you can leave your racism and stereotyping at home in Flander's Creek or Hunter's Grove or Whitey's Hollow or wherever it is you're daring to venture out from. And leave your guns at home, too, please.

Hippies are plentiful in Waukesha?

Hippies are scarce on Downer Avenue. Or anywhere else in Milwaukee, except maybe for Riverwest. There are tons of Baby Boomers, UWM students, and yuppie-thirty-somethings on Downer. Maybe you're confusing Downer Ave with Brady Street. Or maybe you're confusing hippies with gutter punks. Either way, Downer Ave is Whitesville, minus the camo gear.

'Whitesville'? Not sure why you bring race into this--most (pretty much all) of the 'hippy type' people I see on the Ease Side are white people.
I will admit that I do associate Downer and Brady as similar in the types of people attracted to that area. Lots of people that wear their blue fist bumper stickers proudly...

Oh CD, don't ignore the elephant in the room. You know as well as I do that when AWD says he's afraid of this side of Milwaukee that that includes people whose race differs from what he's used to seeing where he lives out in the sticks.
Also, to generalize all progressives by calling them "hippies" is outdated. Do you really think there is a large population of people walking around the east side wearing bell bottoms, platform shoes, fringed vests and peace medallions?

The style of dress might be slightly different, but there does seem to be an ever-present stench of patchouli...

So is that the old Lixx location?

You are correct, Bob.

Ah..okay...and I might have missed something in that location in the meantime...a hot dog place or something I think. I bike through the area frequently during the warmer months but tend to keep my eyes on the road. I assume something else is in the old JJD/Chancellory location. Initially I thought of that location when Downer was mentioned.

I know these Downer Ave people and this area well. Empty nesters, large Jewish voting bloc. These are the tolerant people that vote steadily Democrat and aligned themselves with most Progressive causes. The area is also full of Section 8 housing and if you listen very carefully the whispering Downer Ave types will share with you their dismay at having to live near ‘those people. ‘Drive around the Downer Ave area you will see homes with foil over the windows, hoopties in the driveway and lawn and at night the loud thump thump thump of bass at 3.00AM. Great location Pizza Man, you picked a winner!

So by the confusing rationale of your comment, Downer Ave is a worse location than Oakland and North? Where do you want them to rebuild, Brookfield? I think this new location makes perfect sense; Pizza man is an east side institution and this new location is in keeping with that reputation. I don't understand what the big deal is about the neighborhood. If there are "hoopties" (now who's pulling the race card?) and foil over windows, keep in mind that there are tons of undergrad and graduate students renting in this area, as well as homeowners. I hear loud music in my neighborhood, and that doesn't exactly make it unsafe or unsavory. Get a grip, people.

Also, there's no Section 8 housing on Downer or anywhere near there. Let's get our gossip straight. Or at least from a more credible source.
