Lake Bluff Elementary School students honored veterans with a special assembly on Friday.

More than 20 veterans attended as guests of honor, with an American flag presented from a loved one that attend Shorewood schools.

United States Navy veteran Mark Kostic was the keynote speakers.

Students and staff were encouraged to donate $1 leading up to the honorary assemblies to help send a veteran on a Stars and Stripes Honor Flight. A check for more than $500, the school's goal, was presented at during the assembly.

Shorewood Intermediate School will hold its special assembly Monday at 8 a.m. and Atwater Elementary later that day at 1:45.
