Man Accused of Sexually Assaulting Shorewood Woman As She Slept

Milwaukee man is charged with felony sexual assault after a local woman told investigators she was assaulted as she slept following a high school reunion.

A 28-year-old Milwaukee man is accused of sexually assaulting a Shorewood woman at her apartment following a high school reunion.

Nicholas Doty was charged Jan. 27 with felony third-degree sexual assault in Milwaukee County Circuit Court.

According to the criminal complaint:

The victim and Doty were classmates in high school and both attended a November class reunion. She and her roommate later invited him back her to Shorewood apartment.

The group sat around talking, watching TV and drinking until about 2 a.m. when the victim went to bed.

She told investigators she fell asleep and sometime later woke up to someone engaging in sexual acts with her. She began kicking and screaming, and told the man to leave, she told police.

She then followed him out of her bedroom and told him to get out of her apartment.

Doty is due for a summons hearing Feb. 14. If convicted, Doty faces a maximum fine of $25,000 or imprisonment of no more than 10 years, or both.

My comment is not on the assault but on the things that happen before:
How invite someone (you don't know or barely know) to your home??
Allow this person to drink, watch TV and more.. and don't ask him to leave before you're going to bed??
I field bad about the lady but.... I believe than.. if they were more cautious, nothing would happened.
I'm not trying to offend anyone ... I just want them to understand that nothing would happened, if they were more cautious

But it said the two met at a class reunion, so suppose they knew each other in school and continued to visit at the apartment. It would have been better had the article said how they knew each other, would have been more responsible reporting. Again, according to the article the victim went to bed leading us to believe that her roommate was still up drinking with the scum sucking piece of garbage and from there we don't know what occurred. This is part of the problem with how all media "reports" news pieces - meaning incomplete details and then we the readers jump to conclusions.

Lets see here. Subtitle says "as she slept by a man", the story says "the victim went to bed...later woke up to someone engaging in sexual acts with her". So did she sleep with the man or did she not sleep with the man?? Subtitle says "a man she met at a highschool reunion", story says they "were classmates in highschool". So did they meet as classmates in highschool, or at the highschool reuion?? Clearly Adam McCoy does not have the facts. Continued awful reporting from this Patch editor.

You guys are making it sound as if Adam went and interviewed the lady, then went and talked to the guy before writing this story. As it clearly says in the article: "According to the criminal complaint:" That's where he got the facts; he can only report what the police wrote down. I get frustrated, too, when stories seem to have details missing. But I don't think you can blame Adam for that.

I second that. I think that Adam is one of the better editors on Patch and usually does a fine job in putting together quality news reports.
