Lock Your Cars: Wave of Break-ins and Vehicle Stolen in Shorewood
Four car break-ins overnight on Sunday were to unlocked cars, and a car left running in a driveway was stolen the following morning.
The village was hit in a string of four car break-ins overnight on Sunday, and a stolen van the following morning.
Within the hours of 6 p.m. on Sunday and 1 p.m. on Monday, the cars, all unlocked, were illegally entered.
About $5 in change and a $30 pair of sunglasses were taken during a break-in that occurred in the 1900 block of East Newton Avenue, and $3 in change was taken during an illegal entry to a car in the 4200 block of North Murray Avenue.
Another vehicle parked in the 2000 block of East Edgewood Avenue was rummaged through but nothing was taken, police say.
And, a backpack taken from a car parked in the 1600 block of East Newton Avenue was later ditched in a nearby backyard.
Then on Monday morning, police say a resident stepped inside their home in the 3500 block of North Lake Drive at about 11:15, left their 2006 Honda Odyssey van running in the driveway, and returned to find it stolen and a bicycle left behind. A brown suitcase containing pieces of jewelry were in the car at the time of the theft. Police aren't releasing their value.

The bicycle is far more fuel efficient than a 2006 Honda Oddyssey. Perhaps some eco-terrorist group is trying to force their will on people...
