Kate Baldwin: Starring Role in Shorewood

Baldwin, an internationally renowned Broadway star, is returning to her roots in Shorewood next week to re-connect with with her hometown and her mentor, Drama Director Barbara Gensler.

Shorewood native Kate Baldwin has quickly become one of Broadway’s leading talents.

Since her graduation from Shorewood High School in 1993, and Northwestern University in 1997, she has moved on to become a Tony-nominated, internationally renowned actress.

She’ll share her experiences and journey to show business stardom with Shorewood students and the community when she comes back to visit her alma mater on March 22.

Topping the list of accolades is Baldwin’s performance in Finian’s Rainbow for which she received critical acclaim and a Tony nomination in 2010. She was also featured in productions such as Wonderful Town, The Full Monty, and Thoroughly Modern Millie, and took part in a concert tribute to Stephen Sondheim with the New York Pops at Carnegie Hall.

The premiere of the new musical Paradise Found featured Baldwin in a production co-directed by Harold Prince and Susan Stroman at the Menier Chocolate Factory in London. The Telegraph wrote of her performance: "The best performance comes from Kate Baldwin, who is both affecting and a succulent feast for the eye, as Mizzi.”

And in October 2009, Baldwin released her first solo album; Let's See What Happens.

I think it's safe to say a lot.

Currently, she is preparing for her next project as MariAn in Music Man at the Arena Stage in Washington, D.C.

Baldwin is married to actor Graham Rowat and has a son named Colin James who is coming up on his first birthday.

During the day on March 22, Baldwin will share her experiences; provide advice; and answer questions from current students at Shorewood Intermediate School and the high school.

Then later that evening, she will be hosting a “Salon” for 100 fortunate fans.

Additionally, Baldwin is looking forward to the opportunity to reconnect with her mentor Barbara Gensler, SHS Drama Director.

Kate shared, "I really want to make this an intimate setting. Barb and I will be sharing the stage, and people can ask us both questions.

“I can’t thank Mrs. Gensler enough."

Baldwin is in town because she has big, capacity-crowd concerts scheduled at the Sharon Lynn Wilson Center for the Arts, on March 21 and 23. Limited tickets are still available for her March 23 performance.
To reserve a seat for Baldwin's community Salon, or for more information, please email me with your request.

You may leave a message at the Shorewood High School Box Office 414-963-6940. There is no fee for the event. Baldwin would like to be able to involve any who are interested, but the theater only has seating for 100.
