UPDATE: Democrats Remove Vote Tampering Allegations in Recall Election

Upset over returns in recall election, Democratic Party spokesman goes after controversial Waukesha County Clerk Kathy Nickolaus.

Update, 1 a.m. Wednesday: The Democratic Party of Wisconsin has pulled a news release from its website that alleges vote tampering in Waukesha County by the county clerk.

The party chairman, Mike Tate, told the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel that they would not "not pursue questions of irregularities" that was referenced by the Democratic Party in "heat-of-the-moment statements."

Earlier: Perhaps one of the most controversial county clerks in Wisconsin, Waukesha County Clerk Kathy Nickolaus is again under political scrutiny during the Alberta Darling recall election. The Democratic Party of Wisconsin is claiming there is tampering going on in Waukesha County.

"The race to determine control of the Wisconsin Senate has fallen in the hands of the Waukesha County clerk, who has already distinguished herself as incompetent, if not worse,” said Democratic Party of Wisconsin Chair Mike Tate in a prepared news release. “She is once more tampering with the results of a consequential election and in the next hours we will determine our next course of action. For now, Wisconsin should know that a dark cloud hangs over these important results."

A blog on the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel is reporting that the Democratic Party is stating there is tampering in Waukesha County because Nickolaus had not reported 10 out of 11 wards as of 11:25 p.m. Tuesday.

“We believe there’s dirty tricks afoot,” Graeme Zielinski, spokesman for the Democratic Party, told members of the media, including Whitefish Bay Patch.

Nickolaus forgot to report the results from the City of Brookfield in an unofficial report to the Associated Press on election night in April. The results caused Assistant Attorney General JoAnne Kloppenburg to declare victory. Instead, when the votes from Brookfield were reported to the Government Accountability Board, incumbent Justice David Prosser was declared the winner following a lengthy recount.

The incident had Democrats across the state calling for an investigation into the election night snafu and Nickolaus. Protesters immediately marched around the Waukesha County Courthouse demanding an investigation and for Nickolaus’ resignation. Nickolaus is an elected official.

I always thought, you have to fight illegal with illegal... they should have planted a camera with mic facing her computer. No one has to claim it is their video, just produce it. This woman is a slimeball.

I am willing to bet she has her proof of no wrongdoing. After the accusations last time, I would have witnesses and a camera for my own protection. I would be damned if I would volunteer that though- not until I had a strong case for a multi million dollar Libel/Slander suit.

Based on official twitter trending, I have determined that the entire democratic bumper sticker platform has now expanded to five words. 1) Shame 2) Koch, 3) Alec 4) Fitzwalkerstan, 5) Nickolas

Oh yeah, Kiernan - I still will buy you lunch! Your union dues are going way up!

She can't tamper with the votes. She never touches the paper, all the numbers are sent to her and she posts them- that is it. The ballots are actually 17 miles away. Besides, the votes they accused her of tampering with will be certified Wednesday afternoon. Nothing is suspicious because the area voted exactly as expected.
This is just a desperate move by the Dems, the people will see through it- and it will work in the GOP's favor.

Jeff, get back to me when your property tax bill goes up anyway and you're having to take your own garbage to the dump. "Fiscal responsibility" always keeps the same tax money and sends the bill downhill. This has been going on since the Reagan administration.

"Right direction"? That's fine with me, but now you guys own the economy and the quality of life in this state. I'm waiting.

Craig, there are so many ways to add and take away from any computer program... and you have to remember, they have Koch dollars and "ANY HACKER THEY WANT AT THEIR FINGER TIPS". Never say never. It likely happened in the Supreme Court race, and here.

The votes are canvassed Wednesday....canvassing means verified.
It did not happen in the Supreme Court race.
The error was caught by canvassing in the SC race- the system worked exactly as it should.

Yeah, now he's back pedaling real fast and using the excuse that it was his nerves getting to him. How about an apology to Ms. Nickolaus.

Dang, I feel sorry for Kathy Nickolaus. The poor woman makes a mistake in one election that makes her the topic of insults across the state, so now in this election, she was probably trying to be very careful not to repeat anything that could even be construed as a mistake and she still gets slapped in the face! He definitely owes her an apology!

The supreme court race wasn't the 1st "human error" made by Nickolaus. I'm not saying she did anything this time. But clearly the woman needs to be watched/investigated if not removed from office. http://blogs.forbes.com/rickungar/2011/04/13/something-smells-in-waukesha-county-wisconsin-and-its-not-the-cheese/

They put erasers on pencils for a reason. People make mistakes. That is why the votes are verified the next day- the system workes.

I was cringing when I was listen to this interview last night. Graeme totally embarrassed himself and I assumed he did this without the rest of the Dems knowledge. Now I read that Mike Tate was involved too, what a complete joke.

As a conservative I can only hope that Mike Tate stays the Dem leader. Dems took the worst beating in the country last Nov under him. What is his record since? If you want to call getting a field goal, when you needed a touchdown a win so be it. Please, try to see how much national money you get if you try to recall Walker.Keep Kohl's seat? Good luck with that.
Now Graeme, he need to stay as well ( although I hear he should get the resume ready) pure dilusional gold for the Republican

As someone left of center, I wish Mr. Tate had been more circumspect with his words. I was watching The Ed Show when he made that remark about vote tampering in Waukesha County, and it made me blink. I immediately thought, wow -- does he know something I don't? Evidently not.

Really, the last thing we need right now is to look like a bunch of credulous fools.

It was the pathetic, last gasp of a campaign that never should have occurred in the first place, instigated for the most part by a bunch of suburban lefties who love to expound on the plight of the downtrodden from the safety of their enclave east of the Milwaukee River and north of Edgewood Avenue.

There is no tin foil hatted conspiracy in Waukesha.

Numbers match, says investigator

http://elections.wispolitics.com/2011/04/kennedy-waukesha-county-investigation.html

Additionally, liberal statistician Nate Silver states, “The numbers being floated about missing votes in Brookfield seem reasonable. Would be ~11% of Waukesha vote, same as in Prez election in 08.”

Vote-Counting Error In Wisconsin Points to Incompetence, Not Conspiracy

http://fivethirtyeight.blogs.nytimes.com/2011/04/08/vote-counting-error-in-wisconsin-points-to-incompetence-not-conspiracy/

The bottom line here is that Republicans won fair and square, and the Unions spilled 30 Million out of their coffers for absolutely nothing. 30 Million that won't be able to be spent on the 2012 elections. 30 Million that will be difficult to make up now that unions dues won't be compulsory.

Because if you really want to know what Democracy looks like; sometimes it looks like Democrats losing.

Welcome to reality.

Have you looked at this guy's twitter account:

Seriously, Democratic party, this is who you want as the face of your party here in Wisconsin. I think most 14 yr olds have better sense than this guy on how to handle their emotions and what you should/should not post on the internet. That outburst on live TV early this AM was comedy gold.

Talk about incompetence! I can’t decide if this Spokesman for the Party is more incompetent or if the people who put him in place to represent them and the Party are more incompetent. If he does not know that Kathy Niklaus is only a conduit for passing on the vote totals she receives and has no way of tampering with the totals he is woefully unaware of how the process works. If he really does know the process but was so emotionally out of control that he unleashed that peevish barrage of nonsense, he is incompetent in another way and an embarrassment to the people he represents and speaks for.

Alright people, I have had about enough of the generlizations: "typical democrat" "liberal fascists. I am NOt sayign this guy was right. In fact, I am seriously concerned that he would make such statements without factual basis...however....both parties are full of idiots like this. I know plenty of zealots on both side of the isle, who willingly ignore facts and spread scandalous, untrue, accusations around for good sound bites. It is a party thing, it is a incompetance in credibility thing...and the DEMS and the REPUBLICAN parties are both full of them. So enough with the assumptions that your party is free of slime ball trickery. Honestly, it gets old and makes you look stupid too.

Ms. Nicholaus should have gone out of her way to make sure her votes were not counted last. She did not compensate for her huge blunder in the last race.
