Home Burglary Suspect Nabbed by Police
As Shorewood braces in the wake of eight home burglaries over a few weeks, authorities say they have suspect in custody after a recent burglary.
Police have arrested a 25-year-old Milwaukee man in connection with a burglary on Monday.
The neighbor of a condo owner in the 4000 block of North Downer Avenue phoned police to report suspicious activity. Based on a description provided, police were able to apprehend the suspect.
Police say the suspect had a knife, they believe he used to pry open a common door to the condo building, and had property from the residence on the block.
The burglary marks the ninth since Sept. 27 in Shorewood. Homes on the east side of Milwaukee, Whitefish Bay and Fox Point have been targeted as well.
It’s unclear whether the suspect is connected to other burglaries.

I would suggest that we still lock all our doors as this type of crime has been repeated many times over the years in Shorewood. I've lived in Shorewood since 1983 and have seen this type crime reported repeated. Make sure your back door is locked and all purses and other items are secured away from the entrances to your home. It doesn't take much for someone to open your door and snatch your purse or take your phone and keys if they are located near the door. You may not discover the crime for hours after the crime is committed. Don't think that this type crime won't happen if you are home. Many of these crimes are committed while the resident is home.

Robbery is nothing new in Shorewood. My house was burglarized in broad daylight back in the 1990's. Despite losing about $5,000.00 worth of items the whole ordeal seemed to bore the police department. I had a feeling the perpetrator was a workman that had been in my home and supplied the police with his name - they never followed up on it and admitted so. I love our little village but people need to wake up to the fact that this is a very transient village with bus stops, close to the university, etc., that said I feel very safe here. Just lock your doors people! What's up with that anyway? How can you go to bed with your doors unlocked!

Perhaps you should try leaving some outdoor lights on and not rely on streetlights to illuminate your property...

I do have a front and back light....HOWEVER...if the lighting was better...it would help.
I also keep all doors and windows locked...and I have a dog...may buy a gun...

How will having brighter streetlights help, really? Streetlights are for helping people walking on the sidewalks to see their way--they should have nothing to do with the security of your home--particularly on the side of your house that isn't facing the street.

you are right....however...criminals need to walk to a home to break in...hence...more lighting might make them more visible. Better lighting can't hurt...and it may help.....do you have a problem w/ better lighting (switching out the thick globe glass on the street lights)???????????

If it is going to increase my taxes and provide little to no value in return, I guess I have a problem with it. There are a lot better ways to be spending our tax dollars...

Personally, I think the street lights are for ambiance only. As an avid night walker they do nothing for me, I do plenty of tripping and in the winter with ice, forget it. Someone can be practically on top of me before I see them and half of them are on the blink anyway.
